CRA–Carlo Ratti Associati, in partnership with Salone del Mobile.Milano, has unveiled an extraordinary architectural project for the upcoming 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics: a 3D-scanned, digitally fabricated wooden shelter that blends harmoniously into the Alpine landscape while operating entirely off the grid. This pioneering shelter leverages advanced 3D scanning technology to precisely map its natural surroundings, ensuring minimal environmental impact and a design that echoes the contours of the Alps. The structure is constructed using locally sourced timber, further reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable building practices. Self-sufficiency is at the heart of this shelter’s design. Equipped with integrated solar panels and state-of-the-art energy storage solutions, the shelter generates and stores its own power, making it an ideal model for eco-friendly, off-grid living.
